How Important Is The GRE Score?

How Important Is The GRE Score-

The question itself is interesting as it seeks to highlight the importance of GRE score. To get enrollment in a top university for MS in US, the eligibility criteria starts with a good GRE score. However, Statement of Purpose, Letter of Recommendation and Percentile in graduation examination play an equal part in getting enrolled. It does not mean that the test is tough. Moreover, how you face the VISA interview confidently matters most. All combine in giving your application a reasonable visibility in getting the green signal to go to international schools and colleges for higher education.

A big score in GRE helps you to get scholarships that will reduce the financial burden to study in US. It will offer admittance into top-rated universities. But other additional documents count a lot. The journey to your dream destination is exciting. The importance of GRE score is even more challenging. It gives the applicant an opportunity to improve on his Verbal, Quant (Math) and Analytical Writing Skills (AWA). The math tests more of simple reasoning in numbers. Verbal and AWA test English language skills.

A GRE score supports:

  1. Intelligent thinking.
  2. Effective idea presentation.
  3. Examines standard English language.
  4. Communication in speaking and writing.
  5. Which program you are applying for?

The rough values prescribed by ETS for independent scores is –

For Example: 2.5/6 is equal to 6 percentile, which is too low

4.6/6 will get you 78 percentile

It is important not to neglect the importance of each section in GRE. A student’s potential is not reflected by a GRE score. However, it is good to keep focused. A good suggestion is that you must perform to your best ability. Let your mind be open to reach the goal you have a passion for. The time you invest will definitely count.

It also means reading literature where such words that are common to GRE are used.

To begin with start writing essays where you can load the sentences and paragraphs with usage of the collection of words. It must be done with proper grammar to understand the definition of the word. When you know what the word defines you can remember it more easily. This how you can remember the vocabs in GRE for a longtime. The other tricks are:

  • Study Smart

Flashcards are not adequate enough. You need to look beyond them. Creating several contexts for learning is a step forward to remembering 3000 to 3500 words in GRE vocabs. MBA in other destinations

A survey reveals that the percentage of non-US citizens who say they are now less likely to study in the US has grown to 43% in April 2017 from 35% in November 2016. Similarly, a country-level analysis has revealed that Indian candidates are negatively influenced by the Brexit vote, with 58% reporting that it has made them less likely to study in the UK.

A recent Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) survey states almost 59% of the applicants intend to apply for programs outside their home country.

B-schools are releasing the deadlines for submission of (2016-17) MBA applications?

financialaid3-620

The upcoming dates for submission of (2016-17) MBA applications are releasing by top B-schools. Several applicants are waiting in anxiety for the announcement to be made from Harvard Business School. So far, the big news is that the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School has moved forward its round one enrolment deadline by eight days, September 19, 2017.

This includes Stanford, which has the same round one cut-off  date.

Top B-schools earliest deadlines:

School Name Deadline Date Decision Essay Release
INSEAD June 14, 2017 (Round 3: Jan. ’19 Intake) September 8, 2017 Yes
INSEAD July 26, 2017 (Round 4: Jan. ’19 Intake ) September 29, 2017 Yes
Yale SOM September 13, 2017 December 6, 2017 Yes
Stanford GSB September 19, 2017 December 14, 2017 Yes
INSEAD September 20, 2017 (Round 1: Sept. ’18 Intake) November 24, 2017 Yes
Pennsylvania (Wharton) September 19, 2017 December 14, 2017 No
Columbia Buisness School October 4, 2017 (Early Decision & Jan. 18) Rolling Admissions Yes
NYU (Stern) October 15, 2017 TBD No

The early decision deadline, including rolling admissions decision maintained by Columbia Business Schools is another example of early dates for filing (2016-17) MBA applicantions. Moreover, there are several schools that are yet to make an announcement.

An early bird catches the worm.

It better to file-in your applications than to wait for a later date. In the earlier dates it is easy to get enrolled quickly. It is because none of the seats are filled. The applicants who seek early admission have an advantage over those who start their submissions later. The other reasons are:

  • A scholarship
  • Enough  time to complete the curricula in both Quant and Verbal
  • Early housing access in B-school or university campus
  • International student’s get plenty of time to fulfill application process for VISA

However, the best time for submission of applications is when you feel you have all the necessarry documnts ready. A hurried filing process could create anxious moments. It is better to wait and proceed.  You can also consider applying in the next round. The top B-schools are always looking for an excuse  to cut off candidates who apply. At least 20 out of 100 applications have some loopholes. So do not fall in that category.

Awesome Australia

Awesome Australia

Australia’s international student enrolment hit a new high in 2016 to reach a total of 554,179 for the year. The latest data from the Australian Department of Education and Training reports this as a 10.9% year-over-year increase from 2015, against average annual growth of 6.5% per year over the past decade.

More than four out of every ten of those students (43%) were enrolled in Australian higher education, which saw overall growth of 13% for the year. The next-largest sectors were vocational education and training (VET), with 26% of all enrolment and nearly 12% growth for the year, and English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) which accounted for 21% of all foreign students and 4% growth.

International education exports hit a record AUS$21.8 billion, making it Australia’s third largest export after iron ore and coal.

In 2016, India has sent more than 78,000 students to Australia which is approx. 9% increase over 2015. Now, in 2017, the figures are expected to ‘hit the roof’, since many students are looking towards Australia for higher education, given the uncertainty in USA.

Nine out of ten students (89%) say they are “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with their experience of living and studying in Australia.

Nearly three quarters (74%) said that Australia was their first choice or overseas study with most indicating the that reputation of Australian education and personal safety and security were among the major factors in their choice.

With such positive response from the International student community, Australia becomes a ‘hot’ destination for studying at any level – be it Bachelor’s, PG Diploma or Master’s.

Best of all, Australia caters to all levels of students – both academic and financial – and the decision-making process on applications is very fast. Some universities give an admission decision in less than two weeks. And, there are four enrollments per year, for many programs in most universities.

What are you waiting for? If you are looking for quality education at an affordable cost and want to seek ‘Permanent Residence’ (PR) after your education, Australia is the country to jump in.

USA – Study, training and Work: Latest updates

USA - Study, training and Work- Latest updates

There are a lot of misconceptions and rumors that are circulating amongst the international student community, who wish to study and later work in USA.

In this Newsletter, we are looking at the ‘actual’ and practical information given by successful applicants for USA H1B Visa.

Quite a few Indian applicants who have studied their Master’s in USA and have been working in the USA after their Optional Practical Training have visited India in recent times and applied for H1B Visa.

Almost all the applicants have their H1B visas approved for THREE YEARS.

From our conversation with some of them, it was clear that the visa interview was mostly about if they (the applicant) had studied in USA and working with a company directly, instead of through consultants.

Also, there was a discussion with the US Consulate staff, in one of the popular news channels. The officials have categorically stated that there will be absolutely no problem for students to study and work in USA.

What does all this mean?

  • For genuine students who want to obtain international qualifications from USA, the doors are always open.
  • There are NO RESTRICTIONS on students to obtain Curricular Practical Training (CPT) or Optional Practical Training (OPT) at all. In other words, no changes in law have been envisaged for CPT or OPT.
  • If the students obtain an American Degree in USA, they will be eligible to apply for H1B visa. As per a proposal, applicants who study in USA will be preferred for the H1B visa
  • Since there will be no lottery system from next year (2018) and the number of applicants will be restricted, it becomes easier for applicants to get their H1B easier than now!
  • With a H1B visa on hand, one can work for three years initially and extend it for another three years as per present rules.

So, study in USA to get a world-class degree and gain practical work experience and employment for a very BRIGHT FUTURE!

What’s stopping you now? Just visit our Manhattan Review’s center nearest to you and prepare to fly!

Wish you good luck.
